A collaboration between Sehlare Sa Meetlwa (SSM) and VBKOM in 2022 set forth an objective to improve the well-being of the communities in which they operate. In pursuit of this objective, SSM proactively engaged and partnered with Tloleho Environment and Social Consulting. This partnership brought about Atlega.
Together, the pressing needs of the local communities are being addressed, with the identified beneficiaries being Refentse Primary School in Groenwater, Postmasburg, and Maikaelelo Primary School in Olifantshoek. Through collaboration with the two schools, a needs analysis was conducted. Each school indicated that they each have a nutrition program in which they strive to provide each pupil with breakfast and lunch.
The greatest need for each of these two schools were new gas stoves and kitchen utensils that would enable staff to prepare the two much needed daily meals.
On 22 January 2024, Atlega’s Lindiwe Job and Tuduetso Thamage executed the handover of the following much-needed to the Maikaelelo Primary School:
· Four big carpets for the Grade R classes
· 18 Steel buckets for food preparation
On 24 January 2024, the greater SSM team joined to handover the kitchen appliances to the Refentse Primary School. The individuals who took part in the Refentse Primary School handover were Kirsty Louwskitter, Lindiwe Job, Tuduetso Thamage, Asiphile Mavumengwana, Tiffany Verwey, Oratile Ratshiti, Peggy Masilela and Matsobane Malapile.
The goods delivered to Refentse Primary School included:
· One four-plate Gas stove
· One 30L Urn
· Steel buckets for food preparation
· Kitchen Utensils
· Packaging materials and cutlery
Both school’s principals, staff, and pupils thanked Atlega and SSM for their continued support. The learners and kitchen staff all cheered in thanks when the goods were handed over to them. Mr. Gopane, Refentse Primary School Principal, expressed his appreciation on behalf of the school.
